Pool Equipment Repair in Tequesta

Bubbles in the pump lid, a hiss at the pad, returns that sputter. In Tequesta's established neighborhoods, those symptoms usually start on the suction side, and we track them down before anything gets replaced.

Air in the pump basket usually means a leak upstream

If you lift the lid on your pump and the strainer pot is half full of air, or the returns spit bubbles into the pool, the pump is drawing air from somewhere between the pool and the pump. That is the suction side, and it is where we start. Low water level, a cracked or dried-out lid o-ring, a loose union, a worn valve stem seal, or a skimmer weir that sticks can all let air in. A pump running on air for long enough can overheat and damage its own seal, which turns a small problem into a larger one.

Tequesta has a lot of established homes with equipment pads that have been through several rounds of replacement parts and plumbing changes. Each change adds a joint, a fitting or an adapter, and each of those is a place where air can sneak in. Sun Harbor Pools diagnoses these systems patiently, one connection at a time, and explains what we find. Repairs are performed by licensed partners we coordinate, quoted before work.

How we work through a suction-side problem

  • Start with the simple things. Water level, skimmer weir, pump basket condition and the lid seal. A surprising number of air complaints end here.
  • Watch the pump run. Where bubbles appear, how quickly prime is lost, and whether it changes when we isolate the skimmer from the main drain or spa suction.
  • Check every accessible fitting. Unions, valves, threaded adapters and the pump's own connections, looking for drips when off and air when on.
  • Separate a fitting leak from an underground one. If everything at the pad checks out, the leak may be in buried plumbing, and that becomes a leak-diagnostics conversation with its own staged testing, quoted before each stage.

Small pools, small margins

Many Tequesta pools are compact, and plenty share circulation with a small spa. Less water means equipment problems show up faster. A pump that loses prime overnight can leave a small pool without circulation long enough for chemistry to slip, and a spa on the same plumbing can drain back through a valve that no longer seals. We check spa valve positions and actuators as part of the diagnosis because they often play a role in air and flow complaints on combined systems. If the spa heats slowly or drains into the pool after the system shuts off, a check valve or actuator is a likely suspect, and we confirm it before suggesting a part.

Mature landscaping adds its own pressure. Fine leaves and flowers can pack a pump basket or cleaner line until flow drops and the pump starts to strain, which can look like an equipment failure until the basket is cleared.

What is not part of our service

We diagnose pumps, filters, valves, heaters, salt systems, automation and cleaners. We do not perform structural repair, resurfacing, tile, decks, screen enclosures or pool construction, and we will point you in the right direction rather than guess at work outside our scope.

Reach out with the symptom

Call or text (772) 919-9365, or request a quote. A short video of the pump running with the lid visible is useful, along with whether the problem gets worse when the spa is in use. We will narrow down the cause, explain the options, and coordinate any repair through licensed partners with the price set before work starts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to keep running a pump that is pulling air?+

Running a pump that keeps losing prime risks overheating and seal damage. If it cannot hold water in the basket, turning it off until the cause is found is the cautious choice.

Could my pool be leaking if the pump pulls air?+

Possibly. A suction-side leak can let air in while running and let water out when off. If the pad checks out, we may recommend leak diagnostics on the buried plumbing.

Do you service pools that share equipment with a spa?+

Yes. Combined pool and spa systems are common in Tequesta, and we check the spa side valves and settings as part of any flow or air diagnosis.

Will a new pump fix air in the returns?+

Rarely on its own. Air usually comes from a seal, fitting or water level problem upstream, so we find the source before anyone recommends a new pump.
